What to Wear to the Gym

What to Wear to the Gym

If it’s your first time going to work out or you just scheduled a personal training session, you may be wondering what to wear at the gym. Whether you plan on doing some cardio, pilates or weightlifting, whatever you decide to wear should keep you cool and comfortable. Of course, stylish gym wear can also provide you with some motivation and help you feel confident while putting in the work!

What Do You Wear To The Gym?

What Do You Wear to the Gym?

While a lot of it really depends on personal preference, here are some things to try when deciding what to wear to the gym for the first time:

  • Tops: There are many different styles of workout tops available, from crop tops to oversize tees. Avoid tops made out of cotton — they easily get damp when you sweat and hold that moisture. Instead, opt for a synthetic material like polypropylene or nylon, which will wick sweat away from your skin and won’t show sweat stains.
  • Bottoms: Choose bottoms that are breathable and comfortable. Jersey materials are not the best because they will show sweat and won’t keep you as cool as more breathable materials like nylon.
  • Sports bras: For lower-impact exercises like stretches, yoga or pilates, you won’t have to worry about the type of bra as much. If you’ll be doing higher-impact exercises like running, choose a more supportive style.
  • Shoes: For lifting weights, having a flat sole will help keep you secure and stable, while cross trainers are great for individuals who like to switch it up and do different activities like running and group fitness classes.
  • Gym bag: To hold your earbuds, pre-workout and water bottles, your gym bag is a key accessory to have. Choose a duffle bag style if you’re planning on toting around a lot of gear and accessories, or opt for a comfortable backpack instead.
