How does Mental Health Connect to Physical Health?

  • Stress – Stress impacts the body negatively, leading to headaches, digestive issues, high blood pressure, and weakened immune function.
  • Sleep – Conditions like anxiety or depression often disrupt sleep patterns, which can worsen physical health and cognitive function.
  • Mental Health Conditions – Physical conditions create increased risks of depression and anxiety. Some examples of chronic illnesses include diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
  • Mind-Body Feedback – Poor mental health can lead to neglect of physical health, resulting in a loop of issues that can intensify emotional distress.
  • Exercise’s Impact – Exercise supports mental wellness. Regular physical activity boosts mood-regulating chemicals like endorphins and serotonin, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
